New Higher Salary: $75,248 - $102,675

 

The Challenge

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Project Manager to join our Wilmington Ports team.

 

In this role, you will:


  • Provide engineering and construction project management services for the construction, repair, maintenance, planning, design, and procurement of NC Ports facilities and equipment for the waterfront and landside terminals. This include warehouses, buildings, roads, wharfs and docks, cargo handling equipment, railroads and bridges, drainage, utilities, parking areas, and any other facilities requiring engineering services.

  • Coordinate construction-related activities with designers and contractors, outside consultants , the State Construction Office, NCDOT, internal and external customers, and other organizations engaged in our ongoing construction projects.

  • Administer design and construction contracts.

  • Manage designers and contractors.

  • Prepare contracts for the design and construction of new or modified facilities.

  • Provide direction to designers on project development and scoping.

  • Assure that designers adhere to owner’s requirements and contractors adhere to designer’s project schedules and contract documents.

  • Inspect work being performed under construction contracts and negotiate construction change orders.

  • Monitor schedules and budgets and report status on all projects through database, spreadsheet, and online project management and document control software.

  • Assist and provide guidance to our engineering technicians assigned to projects under construction.

  • Arrange for independent testing and inspection of materials.

  • Assist our Vice President of Engineering & Maintenance in the selection of project designers, consultants, and contractors.

  • Participate in the design of projects by the NC Ports Engineering department. This work includes preparation of cost estimates, plans, and specifications for the construction of new or modified facilities.

  • Maintain a general knowledge of NC statutes and procedures governing building and Port construction.


 

What You Bring


  • Project Management experience to manage multiple concurrent projects and follow projects through completion about project schedules and budgets.

  • Computer skills using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), project management, and database applications.

  • Excellent communications and interactive skills for the office and construction site environments.

  • Good technical writing and excellent math skills.

  • A valid driver’s license.

  • Ability to meet Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) security requirements.


 

Management Prefers

Candidates with:


  • Experience with marine terminals/commercial ports.

  • Design experience.

  • Computer-Aided Design CAD/CADD skills.


 

Education & Experience


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management, and

  • 5+ years of relevant experience; or

  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.


 

Note


  • We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
